When to use
The lookup can be used where:
- You're asking a user to select single option from a database of potentially limitless entries
- You have more than 30 options
- The list of possible selection options are intuitively predictable. i.e. there's little confusion for the user regarding what they should start typing
When not to use
The lookup should be avoided where:
- You need users to provide multiple answers
- There are fewer than 30 options (consider using a a dropdown instead)
- The list of possible options doesn't contain items that are easily predictable by the user.
